Description

This is a mandatory unit for the new Level 4 qualification – Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians.

Audit and Internal Controls brings together everything previously split across two separate Q2022 units — Internal Accounting Systems and Controls, and Audit and Assurance — into one coherent study of control and audit. It’s a bigger unit than either of its predecessors, but a more joined-up one.

You’ll start by exploring the role and importance of internal controls within an organisation, including how to identify fraud risks and assess how controls can be used to mitigate them. From there, you’ll build a clear understanding of the audit and assurance framework, the regulatory environment, and the role of corporate governance.

The unit then walks you through the full audit lifecycle: planning and risk assessment, evaluating and testing internal controls, gathering sufficient and appropriate audit evidence through the right sampling techniques and procedures, and finally reviewing and reporting on what you’ve found. By the end, you’ll understand not just how an audit works, but why each stage matters to the people relying on its conclusions.
